Unusual domain registration jumps: 19 so far

What the record shows

RootFetch has flagged 19 unusual jumps across 15 extensions since Feb 26, 2026. The largest, by growth, were .lifestyle (+51.0% in 14 days, Aug 16), .cam (+22.4% in 14 days, Aug 15), .living (+21.4% in 14 days, Aug 18). Some extensions jump again and again: .lol (3 times), .surf (2 times), .boutique (2 times). By registry operator, the most jumps came from XYZ.COM LLC (6), Registry Services, LLC (5), Internet Naming Company LLC (2), Binky Moon, LLC (2). Operators that run many low-cost extensions tend to show up here, because one promotion can move several of them at once.

What a jump means

Most extensions grow by a fraction of a percent a week. When one gains thousands of domains in days, something changed: a registrar ran a sale, the registry cut its wholesale price, a large reseller bought names in bulk, or a campaign registered domains for spam, phishing or malware. The zone file alone can't tell these apart, so a jump is a reason to look closer, not a verdict.

Security teams use jumps to decide which newly registered domains to scrutinize first. Domain investors and registries use them to see which promotions actually moved volume. Journalists use them to spot unusual activity around events.
